What is Agility

It is the ability to move quickly and fast from one direction to another direction. In so many sports when defenders try to stop the movement of the player then he needs to change his direction quickly in seconds. That performance is the agility of the players. Few exercises can improve agility that is,

o   Shuttle Run

o   Zig- Zag Running

o   Jump Box Drill

o   Jump Box Drill

o   Side to side running.

In a player Agility required to improve game technique. Agility is also required for a quick reaction. Agility is also a drill to improve the left, right and other side movements of the body. In agility training a lot of tests are conducted to find out the player’s agility level of the body and it’s also improved by the agility training. In the game so many times players give dodge to other opponents to pass the ball or hit the goal. In shuttle running players run in the state line and come back after touching the mentioned point in front of him but in Zigzag running he runs left rather than right and then again the same process was adopted by the players so many times. In agility training eight drills are very common practice that is. Jump box drill, Side by side, Dot Drill, L drill, high knee, forward running, shuttle run and lateral jump. In the jump box training a box of 18 inches height kept in front of the players and he jumped on the box and came back to their place. It develops jumping ability and the power of the abdominal muscles. There are two types of Agility.

  1. Perceptual and Decision Making.
  2. Change of Direction Speed.

Ø  Shuttle Run (22 Yard)

Ø  Three Cone Drill Test,

Ø  Hexagonal Obstacle test

Ø  Quadrant Jump Test

Ø  Ten Meter shuttle run Test

Ø  Quick Feet Test,

Ø  Side step test

Ø  Edgren Side by side step  test

Ø  Back to front and side test 20 meters.

Ø  Agility Cone drill test

Ø  Arrowhead Drill test

Ø  10x5m Shuttle run Test

Ø  5m Multiple shuttle run Test.
